Exploding Bacon’s 2010 robot, Bacon Strips, was designed and built to play the game ‘Breakaway’ an adjusted version of soccer. Bacon Strips was fairly simple, a pneumatic cylinder in the center of the robot would stretch some surgical tubing and pull back a metal ‘foot’ then when we had a ball centered in our robots roller (we couldn’t bring it in more than 3 inches so basically all we could do was spin it back towards us) we’d line up with the goal and let the air out of the cylinder, releasing the tension on the surgical tubing and ‘kicking’ the ball towards the goal.

Bacon Strips performed well all year and became the inaugural North Carolina Regional Champion
